This assignment is separated into two parts which is 4 tutorial exercises and 1 movie poster. The 4 tutorial exercises were Geometric Expression, Tonal Values and Rendering, Architectural Lettering and lastly Coloring Media and Scale. As for the Movie Poster, it can be in any genre as long as it is not entirely copied from a movie. Some things from the movie needs to be changed to in order to draw the poster.
TUTORIAL EXERCISE
1-4
GEOMETRIC EXPRESSION
In this tutorial exercise 1, I used organic shapes to draw out a geometric pattern to reflect on my own emotions. Feeling lost, but trying to put myself together to work it out. The shapes I used were mainly circles and squares. There were also different types of rendering techniques used in this pattern.
TONAL VALUES AND RENDERING
In this tutorial exercise 2, I was taught on how to use different types of techniques to render which can bring a 2D drawing into a 3D drawing. Bringing a drawing to life. The techniques I learnt were Hatching, Cross-hatching, Stippling and Scribbling.
ARCHITECTURAL HANDWRITING
In this tutorial exercise 3, I learnt how to write in an architectural way which was having the same writing always, neat, and always in capital letters. I was tasked to write our national anthem to practice handwriting.
COLOURING MEDIA AND SCALE
In this tutorial exercise which is the last one, I was given a layout plan to draw out onto an A3 paper. I drew it in a scale of 1:40 and lastly coloured it wtih colour pencils.
MOVIE POSTER
Final Work
Coloring Media: color pencil + watercolor
The theme I chose for my movie poster is Horror. This movie poster is inspired by a creepy movie called 'Caroline'. I used color pencil for the tree, building, title and the figure, as of the remaining, i used watercolor. It was named 'Button Eyes' as the main character has button eyes sewed on as a replacement for the eyes. Therefore it was named as what it was.
MOVIE POSTER DRAFT
I drew two drafts to choose which one to improve on. I then chose the first draft as it looked creepier, fitted more to my theme I chose.
